42-year-old ID’d as man killed in crash on U.S. 31 in Homewood

Authorities have released the name of a man killed in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 31 in Homewood.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the fatality victim as Michel Omar McHoward. He was 42 and lived in Hoover.

The wreck happened about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday near the YMCA.

Authorities said McHoward was traveling down the hill past Brookwood Medical Center when his vehicle left the road and struck a tree. That location was near the on/off ramp from Shades Creek Parkway to U.S. 31 northbound.

McHoward was pronounced dead on the scene at 8 a.m.

Homewood police are investigating.
